XML Support

Netcat CMS supports open standards.  The software provides and supports standards-based development tools (eg XML, CSS, DHTML, XSLT, XHTML and other open standards.

With Netcat, XML components or objects can be placed in the object library and used in any web page.  More significantly, XML transactions can also be represented as objects.  This allows Netcat to create, display and process XML transactions.

Netcat will also interact with other applications that use XML for sending and receiving information or for sharing information.

With Netcat, components can interact and inter-operate seamlessly via defined interfaces and standards.  The software can output content in HTML, XHTML, DHTML, XML and WML.

XML Standards
Netcat supports XML standards via Windows functions and therefore includes DOM, XSL, DTD, etc.

XHTML Standards
Netcat automatically generates compliant XHTML on the fly as authors create and save their content. This means that a page is automatically HTML compliant and W3C accessible.

Syndication
Netcat supports syndication including standards such as RSS and utilises XML formatted content.   Netcat’s flexible XML import and export functions make it easy to handle non standard content or new emerging standards.

Content transformation into structured form - XML
Netcat functions are provided for the transformation of content to or from XML, on export or import.

Storing data
Content is not stored as XML.  It is stored in its native, most efficient format.   When content is to be exchanged with other systems, it is converted at that time to XML.

Data transfer
Netcat uses XML to provide independent format of data for transfer between systems.

Content type
Netcat supports almost any data type.  This includes: html, XML, images, documents such as MS Word, plain text and most database field types.
XML content generated by authoring tools can be placed into Netcat object libraries or web pages.

Metadata
Metadata can be extracted from imported content:

  • XML tags
  • HTML tags
  • MS Word documents (from marked up styles within the document)
  • Document Management Systems, using the metadata within the DMS
Data – convert database schemas automatically into metadata, e.g. import a staff table from the HR system and use selected fields within the table as metadata.

Presentation in XML and other formats
The Presentation layer of Netcat CMS is extremely flexible.  Content can be deployed in virtually any output including XML, XHTML, PDF and Wireless formats such as WAP.

Data interchange
The software supports XML, EDI and other industry standard data interchange standards.

Cross browser support
Almost any browser can be supported by a Netcat generated website.   It is important to design the site so that it does work with required browsers.   Netcat provides many different navigation options that support the popular browsers.

Navigation can use HTML, DHTML or javascript and customers may choose from a wide range of menus, ensuring compatibility with the browser and desktop platforms that are targeted users. Netcat can detect browser type, browser settings such as ‘javascript disabled’ and automatically switch menus.
